The customer service that I have received from this company is nothing short of DISGUSTING. I have been given incorrect information several times that has cost me a significant amount of money. Trying to get in touch with someone to speak to is near impossible with over 40 minutes wait when telephoning and emails not being responded to. It began with me nearly loosing the car I put a deposit on because the sales consultant didn’t get back to me. I had to make several telephone calls and emails. The sales consultant then tried to blame the car dealership. When I changed jobs and wasn’t driving as far, I attempted to reduce my estimated fuel costs and was told that it wasn’t possible to renegotiate this part of the agreement. Later I was told that this was incorrect. Before I went on Maternity Leave I contacted Smartsalary via email to inform them, by this time I had a significant surplus of funds due to being told that I couldn’t renegotiate the amount of kms I travelled each week. I did not hear back from the Smartsalary, so called them. I was told that my surplus funds would cover my repayments and nothing should come out of my wage. When I called to tell them the date that my maternity leave would begin I was told that I was again given the wrong information and that money would have to be deducted from my salary. I was also told that I hadn’t notified them. I was able to tell them the day and time that my emailed and called and suddenly my email was miraculously found. After further issues with communication and customer service, I decided to conclude my contract with Smartsalary and close my account and continue my lease by dealing directly with Macquarie (whose customer service was exemplary). This involved Smartsalary paying me out a significant amount of surplus funds (due to them giving me incorrect information re not being able to change the estimated number of kms travelled each week). I was taxed significantly on this amount when they paid me out. I received documentation of closure from Smartsalary and was assured that our business was concluded and I wouldn’t hear from them again. I have now received demanding emails telling me that my Smartsalary account that should be closed is over drawn $516.91. I have sent 5 emails to date without any response. The last email that I received is threatening getting a collection agency involved. This company is an absolute disgrace. I have never experienced such poor customer service. I tell everyone with whom I work to avoid it.

Well explained but that glass of drink you took out before tax all goes in expenses and the tax savings + some more from your after tax salary all goes to the leasing company.

After the end of the novated lease should I buy the car or should I lease a new car?

A common misconception is that you pay for running costs with pre tax dollars and that's it... what most people don't realise is that there is a lease in place so interest rates are to be factored in, then there is the fact that one becomes liable for Fringe Benefit Tax. Although there are benefits to a novated lease, there is alot more to it. Most informational videos seem to leave those parts out.

I was planning on getting a novated lease so contacted Smart Leasing (part of Smart Salary). They do nothing but confuse and bamboozle you with jargon and figures which make no sense. They offered me insurance at $1,200 so I called RAC and got it for $398, that's 3 times cheaper! Then I decided to change the car from 4WD to FWD and remove loan protection, and the new quote was 11 cents cheaper, made no sense. They are not a transparent company, they don't directly lie to their customers , it's what they omit to tell you that's frustrating. You DO NOT save tax on the price of the car, only the running costs, they do not pass on the fleet discount savings to the customer, they do not tell you what the comparison interest rate is, they don't tell you that you can organise your own insurance, they don't tell you that the Green Fleet charges are optional, they make little to no effort to explain ANYTHING. After numerous emails I am none the wiser. They have arrangements with certain companies and they work together to fleece you so that all the savings you would have got are negated by their admin fees and high interest rates. I had to change consultant as the first one was disinterested, it felt rushed, she only spoke jargon and was incapable of explaining anything, the 2nd consultant helped me decide that dealing with this company was a waste of time. Spent 4 weeks with them and got nowhere. Beware of these guys, even this video fails to point out how novated leases affect FBT and that you only save tax on running costs, but that's how they operate, they not transparent, they make.no effort to save you money and are only interested in selling you additional products which they add to your quote without telling you, you don't opt in for these additions, you have to opt out. To summarize... a bunch of cowboys.

I had a drive in one of these. Found the seats feel cheap, hard and uncomfortable. Sitting in the back feels like the rear has no suspension, and the car in general is noisy and lacks power (even for a diesel).
